Bentiu Update
At CHIC 2006 youth were invited to share their gifts with the people of Bentiu, a village in central Sudan. The students collected more than $100,000 to begin a food program, build a medical clinic and a new school. As of spring 2007, the four main classrooms, a brick and metal roof, and a traditional kitchen have been built. The toilets have also been installed.
“Excitement for the students is at an all time high as the school comes together. They have great anticipation and are very anxious for this project to be completed. It is important to realize that the Sudan has the lowest percentage of girls attending school in the world. However, at Good Hope School in Bentiu, the percentage of females in school is now 43%.”
