62 Days – Peterson Interview

julia-peterson

The CHIC 2009 Battle of the Bands Contest deadline has been extended until June 1st! This gives all you aspiring musicians a little more time to submit your entries! The top three musicians will be invited to perform at CHIC this summer, and one of those top musicians will have the chance to play on Mainstage!  Julia Peterson, winner of the CHIC 2006 Battle of the Bands contest, recently released her first album, Summer Spent, featuring her CHIC winning song.  You can be next! She reflects on her CHIC experience and participating in the contest in the Q & A below. Enjoy!!!

Q: How was your CHIC experience overall?
Julia: I remember it as a fun week with friends and with my youth pastor. We had some really good discussions and prayer times and the worship was great. (I love looking around and getting the feeling I’m one in so many people just lifting up worship and praise to God!) I think participating in the Battle of the Bands distracted me from what else was going on at CHIC, I felt preoccupied with [battle of the bands], but it was still a great experience.
Q: Why did you enter the CHIC 2006 Battle of The Bands contest?
Julia: I think my mom encouraged me to enter the contest, so I did. I didn’t think I stood a chance, but I guess I was wrong! I had a lot of support; my friends voted for me and my parents emailed their friends and had people voting like crazy, so I know I have them to thank!
Q: How did winning the competition change your life?
Julia: I think the thing that stands out most was the feeling of being on stage in front of that many people. I had those normal nerves and jitters before going on stage, but while I was up there, I was having the time of my life. It didn’t change my life drastically, but it changed my thinking in that I have a better understanding of so many things are possible! I never thought I would have played in front of that many people, but I was blessed with that opportunity.
Q: What are you doing now? Are you in school?
Julia: After high school, I did a YWAM (Youth With A Mission) discipleship school in Brisbane, Australia and traveled to China for my outreach. The school year after this, I stayed in Minnesota and took generals [courses] at a community college (just finishing the spring semester now) I’m also working a part time job. Next fall I’ll be attending Biola University in La Mirada, CA (suburb of LA) and majoring in Inter-Cultural Studies.
Q: Seeing as though you have already released one album, any chance we will hear more Julia Peterson soon?
Julia: I hope to record another album this summer. It will be a bit more low key than the first, mostly acoustic, more mellow. Check out my Myspace page for updates with that!! www.myspace.com/juliapetersonmusic.

So get your entries in as soon as possible! June 1st is quickly approaching and we want to make sure that everyone can have a chance for this unique opportunity of a lifetime!
