Michael Gromer Presents Focus Group “Compelled By Christ”
Michael Gromer, of Hillcrest Covenant Church in Prairie Village, Kan., presented a jam-packed, thought-provoking Focus Group Tuesday morning titled, “Compelled By Christ.” Gromer used 2 Corinthians 5:13-15 as a basis for his presentation.
He explained to students the only way one can truly be compelled by Christ is to know Him. “The only way you’re going to know Him is to spend time in His Word and time on your knees,” said Gromer. However one of Satan’s dominant tools to keep us from knowing God is the temptation of distraction. As more time is spent seeking to develop a relationship God, He begins to transform the way one looks at others.
Our culture bombards us with messages such as, “Me first! You need to have bigger, better, cooler things,” but when we look at what the Word says it is quite the contrary. In Matthew 22:39 Jesus challenges us to love others as we love ourselves. It is when one really knows Christ that they can be compelled to focus not on themselves, but on God and others.
Gromer ended with an honest warning, “If you choose to go on this journey He calls you on, it is very likely the gates of hell will come against you,” he said. This warning is backed by the words of Jesus in John 10:10, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy…” Beware, he said, there is a cost, but it is well worth it.
