Betsy Rose Presents Focus Group “Unveil Us”

Betsy Rose, along with her accountability partners Kate Blomberg and Lori Ask, presented a Focus Group titled “Unveil Us” exclusively for women Wednesday morning. The workshop was based on the Bible study, “Unveil.” Lust was the topic of this Focus Group as Rose presented a beautiful message of reconciliation and grace.

“We know as women we struggle with lust in very different ways than guys,” Rose said. “We live in this free country, but so often we live in bondage to the things of this country.”

Rose began by showing a video clip of a young woman from her youth group describing her struggle with lust. No matter what one may be addicted to, said Rose, there is hope in Christ.

“You are not what you’ve done, you are what Christ has done for you,” Rose assured. Many often search for their identity in others’ opinions, grades, friends, outward appearance or something other than God. However when they find their identity in the words of Christ, they have uncovered a steady foundation. Rose stressed the importance of renewing one’s mind in the Word, based on Romans 12:2.

Remembering when she was a teenager, Rose said there were many “don’ts.” Sex was made out to be a dirty, awful thing when in all actuality, God created sex to be good. When there are good things in this world, though, Satan does anything he can to destroy them.

We need to change the way we think about sex, Ask said. Many perceive God’s command of saving sex for marriage as a negative thing. In all actuality, He wants the best for us. He is protecting us from the shame and insecurity that accompanies sex outside of marriage; we should thank Him for these boundaries.

Rose ended the Focus Group with a message of God’s marvelous grace. When we ask for forgiveness, she said, He doesn’t forgive you at that very second, He’s already forgiven you. Our job is to say, “Lord, I repent. Here’s what I did and I am going to turn from it. I accept Your forgiveness.”

“You are what Christ has done for you,” Rose declared, “not what people say about you, not what you’ve done.”
