Feed My Starving Children Once Again a Success

Each full day CHIC, students were given an array of afternoon options to choose from. For some it may have been white water rafting, for others it was playing in a sports tournament and for some it was filling bags of food for an organization called “Feed My Starving Children.”

In just four afternoons 1,900 CHIC-goers worked together to fill 1,980 boxes of food. Those boxes held 427,680 meals, enough to feed 1,171 children one meal a day for an entire year.

Feed My Starving Children is a Christian nonprofit organization that seeks to feed children around the world suffering from malnutrition. This organization sends food to over 50 countries. They team up with missionaries and organizations already working in these countries to distribute the food to children.

Erin Arndt, a Feed My Starving Children off-site supervisor, said it would cost each CHIC-goer about $35-40 for the amount of food they made during their afternoon shift. That is as much, or less than a nice dinner for two and a movie or a Madden 2009 video game. It would mean trading minutes of pleasure for a half-year supply of food for a child.

This hands-on project was once again a success at CHIC ’09. It has been a wonderful opportunity for students here in Knoxville to impact the lives of so many others around the world.
