56 Days – Shachah

From the Shachah website:

Shachah – The Hebrew word for worship. A verb meaning to bow down, to prostrate oneself, to crouch before God in worship.

This definition keeps in focus the essence, ministry and vision of the band Shachah. With their fresh and unique style, the band will engage the body of Christ in heart-felt and sincere worship that will point people to Jesus. With their love for the Lord and using music as their tool, they desire to build bridges of worship uniting cultures in this generation. Their songs cover a broad range of styles which allow them to minister to various cultures. 1 Corinthians 2:2 is the main inspiration and influence when writing lyrics for their original songs.

66 Days – Steven Furtick

From the Elevation Church website, where Steven is the Lead Pastor:

Pastor Steven grew up in Moncks Corner, South Carolina where at age 16 he realized God’s plan for him to start a life-changing church in a metropolitan city.

This vision became a tangible reality when Elevation was founded on the faith of 8 families who risked everything – sold houses, quit jobs and moved to Charlotte believing that God would turn this city upside down for his glory through the local church. That risk has resulted in a remarkable return.

At the three year mark, we’ve grown to more than 5,000 in attendance each week between three campuses and we’ve seen over 3,000 people receive Christ. In 2007 and 2008, our church was named one of the 10 fastest growing churches in America.

The heart of Pastor Steven’s message is revolutionary faith and how to approach every experience from a visionary perspective. As a leader under 30 years old, his unique passion for seeing God’s purposes fulfilled is igniting a fire here in our city and beyond.

Pastor Steven attended North Greenville University, received a B.A. in communications and went on to complete a Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

He resides in the Charlotte area with his wife, Holly, and two sons Elijah and Graham.

72 Days – Flyleaf

From Flyleaf’s website:

flyleaf

“A flyleaf is the blank page at the front of a book,” explains Mosley. “It’s the dedication page, the place you write a message to someone you’re giving a book to. And, that’s kind of what our songs are — personal messages that provide a few moments of clarity before the story begins.”

With their tight knit chemistry, compassionate approach and songs that haunt the mind hours after they’ve stopped playing, Flyleaf are turning heads and leaving crowds wanting more. Indeed, their story has just begun.

81 Days – Asylumz

Asylumz

Asylumz

From the Asylumz website:

2½ years ago Newsong LA Community Church led by pastor Adam Edgerly launched a church on the streets of L.A.’s notorious skid row, America’s homeless capital; no walls, no building, just the word, food, clothing, the people, and the street corner of Wall and Winston. Out of this church comes a group called Asylumz, a name coined by Pastor Dave Gibbons, and a sound called Worsh-hop. Indeed Worsh-hop is Worship in new skins, the sound was developed by Xealot Music through the production of Mercy Diamonds, and named by DJ redeemed of the 12thtribe out of Bakersfield CA.

87 Days – Shane Claiborne

Shane Claiborne

From The Simple Way website:

With tears and laughter, Shane unveils the tragic messes we’ve made of our world and the tangible hope that another world is possible. Shane graduated from Eastern University, and did graduate work at Princeton Seminary. His ministry experience is varied, from a 10-week stint working alongside Mother Teresa in Calcutta, to a year spent serving a wealthy mega-congregation at Willow Creek Community Church outside Chicago.

During the recent war in Iraq, Shane spent three weeks in Baghdad with the Iraq Peace Team (a project of Voices in the Wilderness and Christian Peacemaker Teams). Shane was witness to the military bombardment of Baghdad as well as the militarized areas between Baghdad and Amman. As a member of IPT, Shane took daily trips to sites where there had been bombings, visited hospitals and families, and attended worship services during the war.

Shane is a founding partner of The Simple Way, a faith community in inner city Philadelphia that has helped to birth and connect radical faith communities around the world, many of whom have become known as a “new monasticism”, which produced the book Schools for Conversion. These communities seek to follow Jesus, to rediscover the spirit of the early Church, and to incarnate the “Kingdom of God” — a way of life standing in stark contrast to the world of militarism and materialism. At the Simple Way, their little revolution is lived out locally, as days are spent feeding hungry folks, doing collaborative arts with children, running a community store, hanging out with neighbors, and reclaiming trash-strewn lots by planting gardens. Shane and The Simple Way do much work to expose the fundamental structures that create poverty and to imagine alternatives to them.

Shane serves on the Board of Directors for The Christian Community Development Association, one of the largest national associations of faith-based organizations whose pillars are Redistribution, Relocation, and Reconciliation. Shane writes and travels extensively speaking about peacemaking, social justice, and Jesus. He is featured in the DVD series “Another World Is Possible” and is the author of the several books including The Irresistible Revolution and Jesus for President.

89 Days – LOST AND FOUND

Front View

Front View

LOST AND FOUND is back for their fourth CHIC.

LOST AND FOUND is Michael Bridges and George Baum. George plays piano, and Michael plays guitar. They call their music “speedwood.” Simply put, it is two guys playing acoustic instruments as hard and fast as they can and occasionally singing a ballad. Others have suggested that their music is “the intersection of the Ramones and John Denver.” This is, as you might imagine, a relatively deserted intersection.

Michael and George developed an interactive style as they introduced themselves to audiences throughout the United States on their first concert tour. LOST AND FOUND traveled from New York to St. Louis, to Miami, to San Diego, to Seattle and back to New York on BICYCLES. During those 340 days, they sang more than 260 times at schools, camps, churches, and colleges. With no support vehicle and no particular training regimen, the year truly proved to be a journey of faith. To this day, their concerts include stories of their lives and their travels along with their songs. The performances are a bit like having Michael and George over to your living room for conversation and music—it’s more of a dialogue than a presentation.

Rear View

Rear View

Though they mostly fly places these days, LOST AND FOUND concerts still have the spirit of two guys riding their bikes around the country, meeting people, forming friendships, and selling original recordings of their songs from out of their backpacks. This casual air is melded together with the song-writing skills that won grand-prize in the John Lennon song-writing contest and the experience that comes from continuing to perform over 100 times each year. Michael and George model and proclaim, “God calls us to do what we can with what we have.” Their words, stories and music communicate the message of God’s love in Christ in this unique way.
