UPDATE – 44 Days – Ropes Course

UPDATE: Some of the photos previously posted for the Ropes Course were incorrect. The Ropes Course excursion contains low ropes elements only. For high ropes, you want the Alpine Tower excursion.

With over 20 different challenges, this course is conducted deep in the woods and focuses on building skills like teamwork, problem solving, communication and leadership. PERFECT for building unity in your youth group.

Offered Monday through Thursday.

37 Days – Packing List

Thirty seven days out may be a little premature even for the most excited among you, but for those of you who like to plan ahead, you can download the packing list and start sorting your clothes now.

Below is a list of recommended items to pack for CHIC. See Standards of Conduct for more details.

What to bring:

  • Alarm clock
  • Beach towel
  • Bible
  • Camera
  • Closed toe shoes (mandatory if rafting)
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Insect repellent
  • Journal and pen
  • Long pants
  • Medications
  • Modest Swim Suit
  • Pajamas
  • Raincoat
  • Shorts
  • Spending money
  • Stamps
  • Sunglasses
  • Suntan lotion
  • Sweatshirt/Light coat
  • Tennis racket (optional)
  • Toiletries
  • T-shirts
  • Underwear
  • Water bottle

Skate Park Equipment (if using the new Knoxville Skate Park)
CHIC will NOT provide any equipment (skateboards, in-line skates, or helmets/pads); individuals wishing to use the Knoxville Skate Park must provide their own equipment.

54 Days – Cave Tour

Journey underground on a mile long informative and historical tour. The cavern is big enough to lay down a football field inside, and you can also see large, underground waterfalls.

Offered Sunday through Thursday.

70 Days – Hiking in the Smokies

Take a hike on a non-marked, off-trail route that features historic civil war sites, such as Court House Rock, 200-year-old homesteads, and Court House Falls and Court House Cave, which are not on typical maps. The hike lasts 1.5 to 2 hours.
Offered Monday through Thursday.

76 Days – Horseback Riding

Another one of the many excursion opportunities at CHIC 2009 is horseback riding in the beautiful, rolling hills of the Tennessee countryside. No riding experience required. Offered Sunday through Thursday.

86 Days – Feed My Starving Children

During your week at CHIC, you will have the opportunity to participate in a unique, hands-on service project that will benefit feeding programs all over the world, including Asia.

CHIC is teaming up once again with Feed My Starving Children, an organization dedicated to feeding those who suffer most from malnutrition and hunger. Throughout the week, there will be two-hour work sessions in the afternoon available for you or your group to participate in. During each session, you will serve by packaging meals.

Space is limited, so pre-register as an individual or as a group.

88 Days – White Water Rafting

One of the many excursion opportunities at CHIC 2009 is whitewater rafting. Rafting on the Pigeon River, located in the heart of the Smoky Mountain is a great trip for everyone, and no experience is necessary. Offered Monday through Thursday.

If you have rafting experience and want a more challenging white water rafting trip, the Ocoee River is for you. The Ocoee River is one of the most popular rafting rivers in the nation and was the site of the 1996 Olympic whitewater competition. the Ocoee will only be offered on Sunday.

Gift Certificates

Gift CertificateGift certificates are a great way to support the student in your life on their journey to CHIC 2009. These may be used to pay for CHIC registration fees or CHIC Excursion registration fees only. No refund will be given for unused portions of the gift certificate. When using a gift certificate to pay for CHIC registration or excursion fees mail this certificate along with other group payments to the University of Tennessee.
